Established in the mid 70’s astute (formerly A&A Slinger) started manufacturing rubber stamps for the office supplies industry in the north east of Scotland. In the early years it became apparent that the only way to succeed in this sector was to offer the best service possible at affordable prices. These fundamental aspects are what the success of our business has been built on to this day.
We are still one of the few manufacturers of rubber stamps in the United Kingdom but our core business has developed into new sectors, enabling us to become one of the market leaders in the North East.
Astute acquires Scotscan, Aberdeen In 2005 Astute acquired Scotscan a digital print company based in Aberdeen, this secured the foothold in Aberdeen we were looking for and allowed us a firm ‘local’ foundation to work from. Over the years Scotscan has successfully merged into Astute and now shares it offices with Johnston Reid in the Hardgate. Astute acquires Johnston Reid & Co., Aberdeen On 1 September 2010 the directors of Astute were delighted to announce another business acquisition in Aberdeen. Having previously bought one digital print company in Aberdeen called Scotscan this second investment further demonstrated commitment to growth.
Johnston Reid & Co are a long established stationery and print company based at the Hardgate in Aberdeen, over many decades they have established themselves as a leader in their industry. This acquisition will see them become much more competitive in print and stationery using the combined spending power to enable better pricing.
Managing Director of Astute, Alastair Donald commented on the deal “ Johnston Reid are a good fit for us, we know them well and they know us – I am delighted they have agreed to come on board and be part of something exciting going forward. There will be a lot of hard work required ahead, but be assured that we are determined to use this as a step for future success. I would like to thank all the staff at the Aberdeen office for their co-operation and assistance and I look forward to working with them”
